To upgrade from MAX 4.0 (or any other previous versions) to MAX 4.1, the following steps apply:

  Preparation

a) MAX 4.1.1 Package, and
b) MAX 4.1.1 Software License (This is different from the 3.2 or 4.0 License.)

As of the last update of this document, the most recent J2SE 1.4.2 software is available at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.php. Download the installation software for Windows onto your local drive, and install it offline.

3 Uninstall the previous JRE before you install the new plug-in.

8 Backup MAX again for added security by copying the whole MAX 3.2/4.0 folder to a new MAX folder (e.g., C:\Program Files\MAX 4.1.1). To find out where is the MAX 3.2/4.0 folder, right-click properties on START | PROGRAMS | MAX INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SUITE | MAX 3.2/4.0. The START IN box will show the directory where MAX 3.2/4.0 is installed. The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\MAX 3.2/4.0.

9 Double-click on MAX 4.1.1 installation file < max4.1.1.exe > to apply the upgrade. Change the destination directory (at step 4) to the new folder (i.e., C:\Program Files\MAX 4.1.1). InstallShield™ will guide you through the rest of the installation procedure.

10 If you are using ODBC withMAX 4.1.1, please refer to the MAXODBC Guide to setup the database. Ensure that the database engine has started before you proceed to start MAX 4.1.1.

14 Wait for several seconds to a few minutes, and MAX 4.1.1 will resume system operation normally. You can then check the version number from the system information page (select SYSTEMS | SYSTEM | SYSTEM INFO from the MAX screen).

15 You can confirm that the upgrade has been successfully completed and set into effect once the main Resources page loads in the MAX screen.

16 For MAX 4.1.1 with ODBC option, you can ensure the connectivity from MAX 4.1.1 to your MAX_DB database by checking that the resource is updated to the statdetails table. You can perform the check after the initial page (default is set to the Resources page) has loaded completely.
