To upgrade from MAX 4.0 (or any other previous versions) to MAX 4.1, the following steps apply:

Obtain the following upgrade requirements:
a) MAX 4.1.1 Package, and
b) MAX 4.1.1 Software License (This is different from the 3.2 or 4.0 License.)

Obtain the latest JavaTM 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) plug-in
from http://www.java.com
or http://java.sun.com.
As of the last update of this document, the most recent
J2SE 1.4.2 software is available
at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.php.
Download the installation software for Windows onto your
local drive, and install it offline.

Uninstall the previous JRE
before you install the new plug-in.

Backup MAX 3.2/4.0 |

If it is not already running, start MAX 3.2/4.0
(select START | PROGRAMS | MAX INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SUITE | MAX 3.2/4.0 from the start menu).

Login into MAX console
(select START | PROGRAMS | MAX INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SUITE | MAX CONSOLE from the start menu).

Backup the MAX databases
by using the Backup feature (select SYSTEMS | SYSTEM | BACKUP MAX from the MAX screen).

Stop MAX by going to the MAX (DOS) Command window
and pressing CTRL + C on the keyboard, OR clicking on the Close control box of the
MAX (DOS) Command window. If your MAX 3.2/4.0 is running as a service,
proceed to START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL | ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS | SERVICES,
select MAX INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SUITE and right-click on STOP
if the status shows Start.

Backup MAX again
for added security by copying the whole MAX 3.2/4.0 folder to a
new MAX folder (e.g., C:\Program Files\MAX 4.1.1).
To find out where is the MAX 3.2/4.0 folder, right-click properties on
START | PROGRAMS | MAX INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SUITE | MAX 3.2/4.0.
The START IN box will show the directory where MAX 3.2/4.0 is installed.
The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\MAX 3.2/4.0.

Install MAX 4.1.1 |

Double-click on MAX 4.1.1 installation file
< max4.1.1.exe > to apply the upgrade.
Change the destination directory (at step 4) to the new
folder (i.e., C:\Program Files\MAX 4.1.1). InstallShield™
will guide you through the rest of the installation procedure.

If you are using ODBC withMAX 4.1.1,
please refer to the MAXODBC Guide to setup the database.
Ensure that the database engine has started before you proceed to start MAX 4.1.1.

Start MAX 4.1.1
(select START | PROGRAMS | MAX INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SUITE | MAX 4.1.1 from the Start menu).

Login to MAX console
(select START | PROGRAMS | MAX INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SUITE | MAX CONSOLE from the toolbar.

Upon login, the system will bring you to the license page
where you can upload the MAX 4.1.1 license file. Select the MAX 4.1.1 license
file < license_xxx.dat > using the Browse button, and click on Upload.

Wait for several seconds to a few minutes, and MAX 4.1.1 will resume
system operation normally. You can then check the version number from the
system information page (select SYSTEMS | SYSTEM | SYSTEM INFO from the MAX screen).

You can confirm that the upgrade has been successfully completed
and set into effect once the main Resources page loads in the MAX screen.

For MAX 4.1.1 with ODBC option, you can ensure the connectivity
from MAX 4.1.1 to your MAX_DB database by checking that the resource is
updated to the statdetails table. You can perform the
check after the initial page (default is set to the Resources
page) has loaded completely.
