The following is a brief rundown of all new features and enhancements
in MAX Infrastructure Management Suite Version 4.3:
- MPLS Monitoring : Using the MPLS module, you can learn and
monitor Cisco and Juniper MPLS POP (point-of-presence) routers, as well
as the CEs (customer equipment) attached to them. It also allows you
to configure maintenance periods for CEs, set the area zone and threshold
configuration for POPs, and perform diagnostic tools to check your proxy
PING utility.
- MAX Portal : Available with the MAXForeSight license, MAX Portal
provides a customized interface that allows subscribers to login to
a custom portal, browse information, and view reports based on their
MAX Portal account root path.
- Maintenance Period Configuration : The MAX Administrator can
configure maintenance periods on any MAX resource across folder levels
to suspend polling for the resource within any given period, during
which alarms are disabled. The maintenance period is depicted in gray
color on the MAX status page. Additionally, maintenance for MAXOnsites
resources can be configured from the remote MAX.
- Replication and ODBC Enhancements : You can now configure MAX
to replicate huge data such as statistics and events records to a relational
database directly rather than through the replication channel, thus
greatly improving performance.
- Auto Reports Delivery at User-Defined Times : You can now set
auto reports to be sent daily, weekly or monthly at specific times most
convenient to your schedule.
- Page Break : To improve readability and minimize scrolling,
MAX screens now provide, where applicable, a page break mechanism that
splits long lists of resources, events, alarms, reports and logs into
multiple pages. You can set the number of items to display per page
in User Preferences.
- Business Hours : You can now set the business hours globally
in MAX. This singular configuration will be used in assigning the business
hours period within which MAX polls resources, as well as for viewing
reports and autoreports, sending notifications, and configuring SLA
business hours.
- Special Polling Time : You can now configure MAX to poll resources
at specific time durations. You can configure individual resources polling
at varying special hours, or apply special hours for polling multiple
resources, as required.
- Automatic Discovery Performance : You can now set the timeout
values for PING, SNMP, WMI and PDC in the Automatic Discovery module.
Both the Automatic Discovery and Topology Discovery modules are now
faster than in previous MAX versions.
- Cisco Enhancements : Cisco scanners have been enhanced to retrieve
port names for resources intelligently. Also, the Cisco Shifting Index
is now disabled default until enabled by the user. This provides flexibility
as the Cisco Shifting Index may cause problems with other switches such
as Nortel, and some Cisco switches may not support the shifting index
algorithm.
- Poller Enhancements : The ping pollers in MAX 4.2 may tend
to elicit false alarms if the number of monitored devices using ping
exceeds 500. To solve this, MAX 4.3 performs batch processing of ping
polling. Other active test pollers have also been enhanced to exhibit
the same favorable behavior.
- Modem Support for SMS/Paging Notification : Modem support in
MAX has been enhanced and converted to an API, which allows you to make
modifications in the command sets in the API, and in turn enables MAX
to support various modems available in the market.
- Poll Period : The default Poll Period value for the polling
of all resources in MAX has been changed to 300 seconds or 5 minutes.
The default setting may also be changed by just modifying the baseCFG.cfg,
which is available in the resource/profiles directory. Poll Period changes
made in this CFG file automatically affects the poll periods for all
resources in MAX, unless users have specifically edited the Poll Period
value for a particular resource.
- ODBC Data Storage Enhancement : To improve the performance
of ODBC data storage the duration of the storage of data has been reduced.
